A Spacious Canopy Suspended Over Your Bed
The Swiss Shield® Suspended EMF Bed Canopy wraps your bed in a spacious, box-shaped enclosure of breathable shielding fabric, reducing the RF signals from cell towers, WiFi routers, smart meters and other wireless devices that reach you while you sleep. It hangs from the ceiling above your bed, has side slits for easy access when you get up in the night, and comes with tie-backs so it looks good during the day too. Compare it with the rest of our EMF bed canopies.
Choose Your Fabric: Naturell or Ultima
The canopy is offered in two Swiss Shield® shielding fabrics, Naturell and Ultima. Both are breathable and have exactly the same composition. Ultima has a slightly tighter weave, which gives slightly more protection: higher shielding than Naturell across the cell and WiFi bands, while Naturell still gives strong reductions across the cell and WiFi bands.
Sustainable, Durable Swiss Fabric
Swiss Shield® fabrics are developed and manufactured in Switzerland as sustainable, durable textiles in the premium segment of the market. They are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Product Class I (baby articles), meaning they are stringently tested for harmful substances, and their EMF shielding performance has been independently tested by EMF Test Lab Bavaria.
Both Naturell and Ultima have the same composition: 82% cotton, 17% copper and 1% silver. The yarn is cotton fiber spun with a gossamer-thin silvered copper thread, just 0.02 mm (about 0.0008 inch) across, and a PES coating makes the fabric non-conductive. It is designed for bedding, bed canopies, curtains and garments, so it keeps the comfort and appearance of high-quality textiles.
Spacious, With Adjustable Height
The canopy stands a standard 6.5 feet tall, and the height-adjustable straps can be extended by a further 3.3 feet if you have a higher ceiling. It is a roomy canopy, made in a range of sizes to suit any bed.
Shielding Performance
Independent testing by EMF Test Lab Bavaria covers 600 MHz to 40 GHz. Shielding is strongest at cell frequencies and falls as frequency rises. Ultima provides about 41 dB at 900 MHz, 38 dB at 1800 MHz, 36 dB at 2.45 GHz (2.4 GHz WiFi), 32 dB at 3.5 GHz (mid-band 5G) and 28 dB at 5.8 GHz (5 GHz WiFi). Naturell provides about 37 dB, 35 dB, 34 dB, 28 dB and 27 dB at the same frequencies. At millimeter wave frequencies (20 to 40 GHz), the canopy provides modest shielding of about 11 to 17 dB. Decibels are a logarithmic scale: every 10 dB is a tenfold reduction in signal power, so 30 dB means 99.9% of the signal power at that frequency is blocked. See the Specifications tab for the full table.
Our BlocSilver® canopies provide higher shielding than Swiss Shield® across the spectrum. For example, BlocSilver® gives about 50 dB around 900 MHz and 46 dB at 2.45 GHz WiFi, against about 41 dB and 36 dB for Ultima, and about 35 to 36 dB at millimeter wave frequencies, against about 11 to 17 dB. If millimeter wave 5G (24 GHz and above) is your main concern, choose BlocSilver®. Choose Swiss Shield® if you prefer a non-conductive, OEKO-TEX® certified fabric that needs no grounding.
Breathable, Lightweight, Translucent Fabric
Swiss Shield® fabrics are breathable, so you get shielding without the stuffy feeling of a sealed enclosure. The fabric is a lightweight, translucent (semitransparent) cotton in a natural ecru or off-white color, so the canopy is not opaque.
Installation: Hung From the Ceiling
This canopy attaches to your ceiling using eight hooks and height-adjustable straps. It comes with comprehensive instructions and almost everything you need for installation is supplied. All you need to add is a tape measure, and most people finish in about 20 minutes. The hooks are fixed into the ceiling, so it is not ideal for renters or anyone who does not want to make holes in their ceiling. If that rules it out, our BlocSilver® Four Poster canopy comes with a freestanding frame and needs no hooks, screws or fixings into your floor or ceiling.
Choosing Your Size
The canopy is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, California King and King sizes. Choose the size that matches your mattress.
Grounding
The canopy does not need to be grounded when you buy it on its own. Swiss Shield® fabric is PES-coated and non-conductive, so unlike our BlocSilver® canopies, no grounding is required. Grounding only matters if you sleep above ground level and add an EMF/RF bed mat, because the mat does need to be grounded. If you buy the canopy and a bed mat together, a grounding kit is sent automatically, free of charge.
Do You Need a Bed Mat?
It depends on which floor you sleep on. On the ground floor, the canopy on its own is enough, with no grounding required. If you sleep above ground level, signals can also reach you from below, so add an EMF/RF bed mat under your mattress to complete the enclosure. The bed mat needs to be grounded, and a grounding kit is sent automatically, free of charge, when you buy the canopy and mat together.
Care and Washing
Swiss Shield® is made from a very thin silvered copper thread under a protective PES coating. Following these instructions protects the coating and the silver layer:
- Wash on a wool cycle or hand wash cycle only.
- Use only mild biological or ecological detergents. Do not use aggressive detergents.
- Never bleach the fabric.
- Do not tumble dry. The fabric must be line dried (hang dried).
- Use front-loading washing machines only.
- Protect the fabric from undue mechanical stress. For example, do not let it bang against a metal windowsill for hours at a time.
The thread and its silver layer are both very thin, so mechanical or chemical stress can damage the PES coating, or even the silver layer itself. The fabric may then discolor and, over time, lose some shielding. Cared for as described, Swiss Shield® fabrics are made to last: they are durable for up to 40 washes, and in our experience of producing them for more than 15 years, they keep their shielding power.
About Discoloration
Swiss Shield® fabric has a protective PES coating over its silvered copper thread, and it is the fabric we recommend if you cannot accept the discoloration that silver fabrics such as BlocSilver® develop over time. Harsh washing or rough handling can damage the PES coating, and the fabric may then discolor, so please follow the care instructions above.
Made in the UK From Swiss Fabric
This canopy is designed and made in the UK, and has been since 2008. Only the Swiss Shield® fabric comes from Switzerland, where it is developed and manufactured.

Single layer of fabric. Values are approximate, from the published Swiss Shield® shielding table and independent expert reports by EMF Test Lab Bavaria (2021).
It uses Swiss Shield® fabric instead of BlocSilver® fabric. BlocSilver® provides higher shielding across the spectrum, including about 35 to 36 dB at millimeter wave 5G frequencies against about 11 to 17 dB for Swiss Shield®. In return, Swiss Shield® is non-conductive, so this canopy does not need grounding. The hanging design is the same as our BlocSilver® Suspended canopy, using eight ceiling hooks.
Both are breathable Swiss Shield® fabrics with exactly the same composition. Ultima has a slightly tighter weave, which gives slightly more protection across the cell and WiFi bands: about 41 dB against 37 dB at 900 MHz, and 36 dB against 34 dB at 2.45 GHz (2.4 GHz WiFi).
Naturell and Ultima both have the same composition: 82% cotton, 17% copper and 1% silver. The yarn is cotton fiber spun with a gossamer-thin silvered copper thread, 0.02 mm (about 0.0008 inch) across, and a PES coating makes the fabric non-conductive. It is developed and manufactured in Switzerland as a sustainable, durable textile for bedding, bed canopies, curtains and garments.
Yes. Swiss Shield® fabrics, including Naturell and Ultima, are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Product Class I (baby articles), which means they have been stringently tested for harmful substances.
It hangs from eight hooks fixed into the ceiling above your bed, using height-adjustable straps.
It comes with comprehensive instructions, and almost everything you need for installation is supplied. You only need to add a tape measure, and most people finish in about 20 minutes. Installation does involve fixing hooks into the ceiling, so it suits someone comfortable with basic DIY.
It is not ideal. The hooks are fixed into the ceiling, which means making holes. If you rent, our BlocSilver® Four Poster canopy is a better fit, because its freestanding frame needs no fixings into your floor or ceiling.
The canopy is a standard 6.5 feet tall, and the height-adjustable straps can be extended by a further 3.3 feet.
The canopy has side slits for easy access, which is handy for those little visits in the night. Tie-backs hold it open during the day.
No. The canopy does not need grounding when you buy it on its own, because Swiss Shield® fabric is PES-coated and non-conductive. Grounding is only needed if you add an EMF/RF bed mat for sleeping above ground level. If you buy the canopy and a bed mat together, a grounding kit is sent automatically, free of charge.
Yes, but follow the care instructions carefully. Wash on a wool cycle or hand wash cycle only, in a front-loading machine, using a mild biological or ecological detergent. Never bleach or tumble dry: line dry (hang dry) only. The fabric is made from a very thin silvered copper thread, so mechanical or chemical stress can damage the protective PES coating and cause discoloration and a gradual loss of shielding. Cared for properly, the fabric is durable for up to 40 washes. See the care instructions in the description for full details.
It depends on the fabric and the frequency. At 900 MHz, Ultima provides about 41 dB and Naturell about 37 dB. At 2.45 GHz (2.4 GHz WiFi), Ultima provides about 36 dB and Naturell about 34 dB. At 3.5 GHz (mid-band 5G), the figures are about 32 dB and 28 dB, and at 5.8 GHz (5 GHz WiFi) about 28 dB and 27 dB. Every 10 dB is a tenfold reduction in signal power. See the Specifications tab for the full table. For the highest shielding across the spectrum, choose a BlocSilver® canopy.
Yes. It provides about 27 to 41 dB of shielding at cell frequencies (900 MHz and 1800 MHz), mid-band 5G (3.5 GHz) and both WiFi bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), depending on the fabric and frequency. Shielding is strongest at the lower cell frequencies and falls as the frequency rises.
Only modestly. Independent testing up to 40 GHz shows about 16, 13 and 11 dB for Ultima and 17, 14 and 12 dB for Naturell at 20, 30 and 40 GHz. If millimeter wave 5G (24 GHz and above) is your main concern, choose a BlocSilver® canopy, which provides about 35 to 36 dB across that range.
Only if you sleep above ground level. On the ground floor, the canopy on its own is enough, with no grounding required. If you sleep upstairs or anywhere above ground level, add an EMF/RF bed mat under your mattress to protect from below. The mat needs grounding, and a grounding kit is sent automatically, free of charge, when you buy the canopy and mat together.
Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, California King and King. Choose the size that matches your mattress.
Yes. Both Swiss Shield® fabrics are breathable, designed to create comfortable sleeping conditions.
Partly. Swiss Shield® fabrics are lightweight, translucent (semitransparent) cotton in a natural ecru or off-white color, so the canopy is not opaque.
Use an RF meter. Take a reading at bed height outside the canopy, then take a reading at the same spot inside with the canopy fully closed. The difference shows how much signal the canopy is blocking.
Swiss Shield® fabric has a protective PES coating over its silvered copper thread, and it is the fabric we recommend if you cannot accept the discoloration that silver fabrics such as BlocSilver® develop over time. Harsh washing or rough handling can damage the PES coating, and the fabric may then discolor, so please follow the care instructions.
If you are not completely satisfied, just let us know. As long as the canopy is undamaged, we will happily accept a return. See our returns policy for details.
