Why Shield Your Phone?

In 2011, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the World Health Organization's cancer agency, classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields, including those from wireless phones, as "possibly carcinogenic to humans" (Group 2B). The classification was based on limited evidence from studies of wireless phone users, including an increased risk of glioma, a type of brain cancer. It is a precautionary classification, not proof that phones cause cancer, and researchers are still studying the question. How to Use It

Slip the phone into the BlocSock with the shielding side facing your body. When you carry the phone in a pocket or on your person, the shielding side is the one that sits against you. On a call, hold the phone so the shielding side is between the phone and your head. The other side is left open, so the phone can still send and receive signals.

Test Results

SAR testing of the BlocSock by RFI Global shows a 96% reduction in SAR, the specific absorption rate. The test report is on the product page. The shielding is directional, not a sealed box, which is why calls, texts and data work as normal. As with any phone, it works harder in a weak signal area, so in a poor coverage zone it is better to take it out of your pocket whatever case you use.

Sizes and Materials

The BlocSock is available in faux suede or faux leather. It is made from fabric, so measure the depth of your phone as well as its width: the depth needs to be included with the width to make sure the pouch is not too narrow.
