Grounding Rod for Earthing: A Direct Earth Connection
Grounding products normally connect to the earth through the ground socket of a wall outlet. This outdoor grounding rod is the alternative: it is a copper rod, about 12 inches (30 cm) long, that goes into the ground outside and connects your grounding product directly to the earth. It includes a 39.4 foot (12 m) cord, which gives you the reach to connect sheets, mats and more. Browse our full range of earthing and grounding products.
Works With Our Grounding Products
The rod works with our grounding products, including the Grounded Bed Sheet, the EMF Earthing Grounding Pad and the Grounding Mouse Pad. It is useful where you do not have a grounded outlet within reach, or when you would rather connect to the earth outside.
If you use more than one grounding product at the same time, connect them all to the same grounding source: all to grounded outlets, or all to the grounding rod, and not some to an outlet and others to the rod.
Why Use a Rod Instead of an Outlet?
There are two common reasons. The first is practical: you may not have a properly grounded outlet within reach, for example in an older building, a rental or when you travel. The second is about the connection itself. The ground socket of an outlet is part of your building's wiring, where electrical noise from appliances and electronics, often called dirty electricity, can be present. A rod connects to the soil outside instead, away from that wiring, and some people prefer it for that reason. Which connection suits you depends on your wiring and your soil. To see the electrical noise on your wiring, browse our EMF detectors and monitors, and to reduce it, see our Dirty Electricity Filter.
What It Is For
This rod is for use with earthing and grounding products such as sheets, mats and pads. It is not a replacement for your home's electrical grounding system.
