YSHIELD® DRY54 Shielding Paint Powder

YSHIELD® DRY54 is a special shielding paint for interior use, supplied as a powder that you mix yourself with water. One pack makes about 0.8 gallons (3 liters) of paint, for use on walls, ceilings and floors. It has a long shelf life, no preservatives, and less packaging waste than liquid paint. It is coarsely pigmented and forms a rather soft film, and it is applied with a paint roller. DRY54 is the right choice if you want to avoid preservatives and do not mind spending a little extra time mixing. Shielding Performance

DRY54 shields high-frequency electromagnetic fields. The values below are for 1 GHz, and depend on how thickly you apply the paint:

• Thick coat (about 163 sq ft per gallon, or 4 m² per liter): 40 dB with one coat and 48 dB with two coats.
• Thin coat (about 326 sq ft per gallon, or 8 m² per liter): 30 dB with one coat and 41 dB with two coats.

Shielding was tested from 600 MHz to 40 GHz in close accordance with IEEE Std 299-2006 or ASTM D4935-10, in YSHIELD®’s own EMC laboratory. The values are the mean of all tested batches, within a tolerance of +/- 2 dB. Because frequencies as high as 40 GHz are not commonly used yet, the values given always apply at 1 GHz. Decibels are a logarithmic scale: every 10 dB is a tenfold reduction in signal power, so 40 dB means 99.99% of the signal power at that frequency is blocked.

Ready for 5G

DRY54 shields the 5G frequency ranges FR1 (600 MHz to 6 GHz) and FR2 (24 GHz to 40 GHz).

How Much Does One Pack Cover?

One pack (about 0.8 gallons or 3 liters when mixed) covers about 129 sq ft (12 m²) with a thick coat (40 dB with one coat) or about 258 sq ft (24 m²) with a thin coat (30 dB with one coat). A second coat needs the same amount of paint again, so plan your quantity around how many coats you want.

Mixing and Applying DRY54

You will need digital scales, a protective mask, safety glasses, a paint stirrer for your drill, a bucket for mixing and a drill or electric screwdriver. Allow about 30 minutes.

1. Mix the whole pack of powder (about 4 lb or 1.8 kg) with the same weight of water (about 4 lb or 1.8 kg, which is about 61 fluid ounces or 1.8 liters), measured exactly on your scales.
2. Stir at maximum speed for several minutes, until the powder is completely mixed in. It stays nearly as liquid as water while mixing, and there is very little dust, because the powder blends into the water immediately.
3. Let the paint rest for 10 minutes. It thickens a little and is then ready to paint, with a good flow for an even coat.
4. Apply with a high-quality paint roller with a pile height of 1/4 to 1/2 inch (6 to 13 mm). Soak the roller with the same amount of paint each time and apply the paint evenly. Short-pile and foam rollers apply the layer unevenly.
5. Do not apply or dry below 41°F (5°C).

Grounding

DRY54 has an electrically conductive surface, so it has to be integrated into the functional equipotential bonding, which means it must be grounded. When it is grounded, it also shields low-frequency alternating electric fields. For grounding, use our EMF paint grounding kit and YSHIELD® grounding tape, and have the final connection made by a qualified electrician, following local codes.

Finish With Any Paint

DRY54 can be painted over with a paint of your choice, so you can finish the wall in any color.

Low Emissions, No Preservatives, No Nanotechnology

YSHIELD® has all its shielding paints monitored by TÜV-SÜD, to test standard TM-07 (health-related ingredients and emissions, product and process monitoring, and control of input materials). DRY54 is low in emissions (VOC), free of plasticizers (SVOC) and solvent-free. It contains untreated natural graphite, carbon black, pure acrylics powder and additives, with no preservative agent. YSHIELD® shielding paints do not use graphene or any nanomaterial.
