Swiss Shield® Naturell: Sheer EMF Curtain Fabric
Swiss Shield® Naturell is a high-quality, translucent, lightweight, semitransparent cotton fabric with all the characteristics of a fine textile. It is a decorative EMF shielding fabric in a natural ecru or off-white color, developed and manufactured in Switzerland. Curtains, Room Dividers and Canopies
Naturell is designed to be lived with: it can be used for curtains, room dividers and canopies, and it keeps the comfort and appearance of high-quality textiles. It is also the fabric used in our Swiss Shield® canopies.
Shielding Performance
Independent testing by EMF Test Lab Bavaria covers 600 MHz to 40 GHz on a single layer of fabric. Shielding is strongest at cell frequencies and falls as frequency rises. Naturell provides about 37 dB at 900 MHz, 35 dB at 1800 MHz, 34 dB at 2.45 GHz (2.4 GHz WiFi), 28 dB at 3.5 GHz (mid-band 5G) and 27 dB at 5.8 GHz (5 GHz WiFi). At millimeter wave frequencies (20 to 40 GHz), it provides modest shielding of about 12 to 17 dB. Decibels are a logarithmic scale: every 10 dB is a tenfold reduction in signal power, so 30 dB means 99.9% of the signal power at that frequency is blocked. Non-Conductive: No Grounding Needed
Swiss Shield® fabric is PES-coated and non-conductive, so unlike our silver fabrics, no grounding is required.
OEKO-TEX® Certified, Sustainable and Durable
Swiss Shield® fabrics are developed and manufactured in Switzerland as sustainable, durable textiles in the premium segment of the market. They are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Product Class I (baby articles), meaning they are stringently tested for harmful substances, and their EMF shielding performance has been independently tested by EMF Test Lab Bavaria.
Care and Washing
Swiss Shield® is made from a very thin silvered copper thread under a protective PES coating. Following these instructions protects the coating and the silver layer:
- Wash on a wool cycle or hand wash cycle only.
- Use only mild biological or ecological detergents. Do not use aggressive detergents.
- Never bleach the fabric.
- Do not tumble dry. The fabric must be line dried (hang dried).
- Use front-loading washing machines only.
- Protect the fabric from undue mechanical stress. For example, do not let it bang against a metal windowsill for hours at a time.
The thread and its silver layer are both very thin, so mechanical or chemical stress can damage the PES coating, or even the silver layer itself. The fabric may then discolor and, over time, lose some shielding. Cared for as described, Swiss Shield® fabrics are made to last: they are durable for up to 40 washes, and in our experience of producing them for more than 15 years, they keep their shielding power.
About Discoloration
Swiss Shield® fabric has a protective PES coating over its silvered copper thread, and it is the fabric we recommend if you cannot accept the discoloration that silver fabrics such as BlocSilver® develop over time. Harsh washing or rough handling can damage the PES coating, and the fabric may then discolor, so please follow the care instructions above.
Sold by the Length
Swiss Shield® Naturell is 98 inches (8.2 ft / 250 cm) wide and sold in 3.25 ft (1 m), 5 ft (1.5 m) and 10 ft (3 m) lengths. Your order is cut as one continuous length, so if you need a longer length, increase the quantity in your basket. Naturell or Ultima?
Both are Swiss Shield® fabrics with exactly the same composition. Ultima has a slightly tighter weave, which gives slightly more protection across the cell and WiFi bands, and is a little heavier. Naturell is the lighter, more translucent choice.

Only modestly. Independent testing up to 40 GHz shows about 17, 14 and 12 dB at 20, 30 and 40 GHz. If millimeter wave 5G (24 GHz and above) is your main concern, choose BlocSilver®, which provides 36 dB at 40 GHz.
